Mullen & Henzell L.L.P. in Santa Barbara, California is seeking a 0 to 3 year Associate to join our Labor & Employment Group. Prior employment defense experience is a plus. Our Labor & Employment group represents, advises, and defends a variety of sophisticated clients, both on the Central Coast and beyond. We handle all manner of employment disputes, including but not limited to PAGA and wage and hour class actions. This is an exceptional opportunity to perform sophisticated employment defense work, with 5-6 other experienced employment defense attorneys, at a dynamic firm that values collaboration, professional growth, and client satisfaction.

Responsibilities:

  1. Collaborate with a team of attorneys, paralegals, and other professionals to deliver comprehensive employment law solutions to clients.
  2. Draft and review various litigation documents, including pleadings, motions, and other related documents.
  3. Draft, propound, review, and respond to discovery requests. Experience reviewing and organizing voluminous document productions (including through use of e-discovery software) preferred.
  4. Assist with and/or appear at hearings, trials, and depositions.
  5. Conduct legal research on various issues, laws and regulations.
  6. Interface with clients to provide advice on personnel matters, address concerns, and offer strategic advice.
  7. Maintain client confidentiality and ensure adherence to ethical and professional standards.

Requirements:

  1. Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
  2. Admitted to practice law in California and in good standing.
  3. Prior experience in employment defense (preferred).
  4. Excellent communication skills, verbal and written, with the ability to explain complex legal concepts clearly and concisely.
  5. Detail-oriented and proficient in drafting accurate and comprehensive legal documents.
  6. Demonstrated ability to handle multiple client matters simultaneously and meet deadlines.
  7. Team player with strong interpersonal skills, able to collaborate effectively with colleagues and support staff.
  8. High level of professionalism, integrity, and commitment to client service.
  9. Ability to meet billable hour expectations and work in-person at our downtown Santa Barbara office.

Compensation and Benefits: The compensation (base annual salary plus an incentive bonus plan) range for our 0 to 3 year associates is $120,000 to $220,000, depending on experience and other job-related factors permitted by law. Full-time associates are also eligible for the following firm benefits: vacation, sick time, medical insurance, dental insurance, Healthcare and Dependent Care Flexible Spending Accounts, life insurance, disability insurance, 401(k) plan and profit-sharing contributions.
