Estate Planning & Tax Attorney 0 to 5 Years (In-Person)

 Mullen & Henzell L.L.P. in Santa Barbara, California is seeking a skilled and highly motivated Estate Planning Attorney with a Tax background to join our Estate Planning group. LL.M. in Taxation a plus. This is an exceptional opportunity to practice estate and tax planning at a high level while enjoying the Santa Barbara lifestyle.

Our team of estate and tax planning attorneys are experienced in complex and sophisticated trust and tax matters. As an associate at Mullen & Henzell, you will be paired with a Supervising Partner based on your experience and interests who will help your practice develop and flourish.

Responsibilities:

  1. Advise clients on estate planning with a focus on tax strategies, including GRATs, QPRTs, IDGTs, CRUTs, CLATs, ILITs, and SLA(N)Ts.
  2. Conduct thorough legal research on tax and California trust laws and draft legal memoranda analyzing proposed transactions.
  3. Collaborate with CPAs, financial advisors, and attorneys to identify tax-efficient structures for estate and business planning.
  4. Handle post-death trust administrations and probates.

Requirements:

  1. Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school;
  2. As an associate we require you be admitted to practice law in California and in good standing.
  3. Strong knowledge of federal tax laws;
  4. Experience drafting complex estate planning documents; and
  5. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, and verbal and written communication skills.
  6. We appreciate your strong work ethic and professionalism.
  7. We expect your ability to meet billable hour expectations and work in-person at our downtown Santa Barbara office Monday through Friday.

General Compensation and Benefits: The compensation (base annual salary plus an incentive bonus plan) range for our 1 to 3 year associates is $135,000 to $220,000, depending on experience and other job-related factors permitted by law. Full-time associates are also eligible for the full range of benefits, including vacation and sick time, as well as medical and dental insurance. In addition, they have access to Healthcare and Dependent Care Flexible Spending Accounts, along with life and disability insurance.
