Joseph’s practice is focused on working with and advising clients on estate planning matters involving asset transfers, estate taxation, generation-skipping taxes, gift taxes and charitable planning. Joseph utilizes not only the traditional estate planning tools such as revocable living Trusts, Wills, and Powers of Attorney, but also some of the more creative aspects involving family partnerships, limited liability companies, and charitable remainder and lead Trusts.

Joseph works closely with and represents a number of charitable organizations in the Santa Barbara area in their planned giving programs. He enjoys the technical and tax aspects of the estate planning and administration processes, as well as the highly personal nature of working with individuals and families and the interpersonal dynamics that are part of the process.

Community Involvement

Joseph is actively involved in the Santa Barbara community, having served as a Trustee of the Santa Barbara Museum of Art and on a number of different Museum committees. He has also served as a Director of the Santa Barbara Estate Planning Council, a Director of the Santa Barbara County Bar Association, a member of the Planned Giving Committee of the Santa Barbara Botanic Garden, and a member of the Endowment and Planned Giving Committee of the United Way of Santa Barbara County. In addition, Joseph regularly presents public seminars on estate planning and on planned giving, as well as teaching a quarterly Adult Ed estate planning course through Santa Barbara City College.
