Jared M. Katz

Jared Katz is experienced in complex, high stakes litigation and represents institutional clients, insurance companies, and high net worth individuals. Mr. Katz practices in state and federal courts throughout California.  Previously, Mr. Katz practiced in Los Angeles with LeBoeuf, Lamb, Greene & MacRae.  He has spoken and written on business and insurance law issues.

 

CASE EXPERIENCE

 

Mr. Katz is experienced as lead counsel, working as part of a team, and as local counsel.  Representative experience includes:   

  1. Currently represents an escrow company in fraud litigation filed by hard money investors arising from failed real estate developments, including obtaining dismissal of RICO claim removed to federal court
  2. Prosecuted fiduciary duty litigation as part of a team on behalf of reinsurance cedents against control persons of an insolvent retrocessionaire in complex federal court litigation  resulting in a favorable settlement
  3. Defended foreign and domestic insurers in coverage and bad faith litigation, resulting in dismissals and favorable settlements
  4. Represented an insurer in successfully upholding the validity of an insurance policy arbitration clause in an appeal before California Supreme Court
  5. Represented an insurer in successfully upholding the dismissal of an action challenging the insurer's post-claim rescission resulting in a published decision
  6. Represented warehousemen and common carriers in litigation resulting in favorable settlements and dismissals
  7. Defended a former energy trading company as part of a team in a business practices claim filed by the California Attorney General in a high profile case that was dismissed
  8. Defended a former investment bank in qui tam fraud claim filed in federal court, winning on summary judgment
  9. Represented a mutual fund complex in market timing litigation winning summary judgment
  10. Represented a major securities brokerage in fraud arbitration trial before the NASD
  11. Represented a commodities brokerage in reparations actions before CFTC
  12. Represented a national environmental engineering firm in negligence action
  13. Represented real estate developers in litigation resulting in favorable settlements
  14. Represented a foreign distributor in a contract arbitration before the International Chamber of Commerce in Paris
  15. Defended employers in employment litigation claims, resulting in favorable settlements
  16. Represented trustees in fiduciary duty litigation
  17. Represented partners in partnership disputes
  18. Serves as local counsel in federal court actions in California
